Welcome to our web site. Interagro Lusitanos, bred in Brazil, are
now also stabled at their new headquarters in the
United States. Interagro was founded in Brazil in 1975. It is
the largest stud farm for Lusitano horses in the world. By exploring
this web site you can access detailed information about the Lusitano
breed, the Interagro breeding operation,
their breeding stock and the people involved. |
The Lusitano is a
breed of horse native to Portugal, steeped in the tradition of its
historical links to the military, bullfighting and the classical
training methods of the “Haute École”. Today Lusitanos are also
recognized for their ability to perform well in a variety of modern-day
equestrian disciplines.
John Whitaker and his partner, the
Lusitano
Novilheiro, were highly successful in
the show jumping world of the 80s. A team of purebred Lusitanos won the
four-in-hand class at the 1996 World Driving
Championships in Belgium - a further example of the talent and
versatility of this breed.
In Brazil
Interagro Lusitanos are being carefully bred from selected bloodlines.
With the cooperation of Portuguese breeders and consequent import of
valuable mares and stallions, the stud preserves the main lineages of
the Lusitano horse. By combining the existing three
main lineages the stud is also developing an
Interagro bloodline with contemporary equestrian pursuits in mind.
Interagro horses
are competing in the United States, Ecuador, Australia, Portugal and
Brazil. Dressage rider PIA ARAGÃO is responsible for the training and
presentation of
Nirvana Interagro
and
Tufão Interagro
in Brazil.
Peter has already
taken 2 Interagro horses to the U.S.A. for cutting training with the
former-president of the National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA), Punk
Carter. Before being exported to Australia, MONTEZUMA DO MIRANTE
competed in dressage with Silke Rembacz – an outstanding Grand Prix
rider.
We hope this web
site will provide a background to the Lusitano horse and introduce
Interagro of Brazil and the USA - the premier source for Lusitanos.
