The Lusitano in Print
Archive: November 2001
Following
the publication of two well-received works on the history
of the Lusitano horse, author and equestrian historian Paulo
Gavião Gonzaga is in the process of writing a third book
due out later next year.
His most
recent book,
O Cavalo Lusitano
Linhagens
is a beautifully designed and printed, comprehensive
reference work on the origins and modern status of Lusitano
bloodlines. It also includes a background to the history of
the Lusitano horse.
A comprehensive
account of the origins and evolution of this ancient breed
was published by Interagro, written also by Paulo Gavião
Gonzaga, in booklet form in 1995, entitled The Lusitano
Horse which won the Pini Award, Best Graphic Design over
all categories.
In the
foreword the author wrote: "It is dedicated to all Lusitano
Breeders, very specially to those that are now entering this
passionate activity. We hope it will, to some modest extent,
contribute to the better understanding of this fascinating
story that spans a time frame of more than 4,000 years."
Both
publications are translated into English but sadly, not printed
for the commercial market. It is hoped, however, that the
next publication will be available for purchase.
