Lineages
in Portugal
The 1989
edition of the Portuguese Equine Genealogical Book (Stud Book)
recognizes six "heads of lineage", one mare and six stallions,
that had an important contribution to the formation of the present
Lusitano herd.
They are:
AGARENO:
a Veiga (MV) stallion, born in 1931, son of Lidador (MV) and Bagocha
(MV).
PRIMOROSO:a
Dominquez Hermanos (DH) stallion, born in 1927, sired by Presumido
(DH) with Primorosa II (DH).
DESTINADO:
another Dominquez Hermanos (DH) stallion, born in 1930, son of
Alegre II (DH) and Destinada (DH).
MARIALVA II:
an Antonio Fontes Pereira de Melo (APM) stallion, born in 1930,
sired by Marialva (APM) with Campina (APM).
REGEDOR: an
Alter Real (AR) stallion, born in 1923, son of Gaivoto (AR) and
Gavina (AR).
HUCHARIA:
a Coudelaria Nacional (CN) mare, born in 1943, daughter of Cartujano
(APT) and Vizcaina (MRB).
These "Line
Chiefs" are the founding fathers/mother of the three main lineages
of Lusitanos: Andrade, Veiga
and Coudelaria Nacional, each
line differing from the others by variations in individual characteristics,
but all strictly framed within the race standard.
